2018 YouTube Channel Goal

I have a single goal for my YouTube channel in 2018:

I have a single goal for my YouTube channel in 2018:

Double The Number Of Windows Users Watching My Videos.

That’s it; my one single goal for the entire 365 day year. Now, lets dive into the metrics for my channel and talk about what exactly this means:

819,058 Total Views across all devices

My YouTube channel received 819,058 views for 2017. That is a metric butt-ton of people watching my videos. Since my focus for 2018 is on my Windows audience, the number of folks watching from computers is the number of interest here:

305,476 folks watching from Windows desktop computers

A little over 300,000 (52%) of the total views for my channel came from folks watching from their Microsoft Windows™️ computer. Interestingly, that number is not much higher than the number of Linux users, which was just over 245,052 (42%). But given the total number of Windows users on the planet vs the number of Linux users, there’s massive room for growth in this space!

Every single video I have made featuring Windows has garnered 1000 views within 30 days after the upload date. On the flipside, many of my Linux videos languish below the 1000 view threshold until whatever niche audience finds it and shares it (which sometimes takes months). This isn’t necessarily a bad thing; it is simply an observation of my audience behavior.

To achieve my goal, I need to increase the number of Windows users watching my videos to about 600,000 views by the end of the year. The percentage or ratio of Windows to Linux users doesn’t matter that much, and I don’t have control of it anyway.

I do think this goal is a bit of a stretch, but if I produce videos that target my Windows audience, I believe I can reach this. Up to this point, 90% of my videos have been targeted specifically at my Linux audience. Even If I target 30% of my videos specifically at my Windows audience, I should be able to reach the goal by the end of the year.

Either way, 2018 is looking to be an exciting year for the channel. I also think it will be a very exciting year for Linux but I’ll save my thoughts on that for another post.
