Hello all you Hobbyists!
It’s July and things might have seem a bit quiet on the surface but rest assured I’ve been up to some cool stuff underground this summer.
Holiday Plans and the Future of Egee

I'm currently packing my new rig for holiday in Central Oregon. Its a place I visit every summer. This trip is going to be a great opportunity for me to disconnect, ponder the future of things, and then spend August banging out new ideas before the year kicks into high gear again in September.
I have a lot to think about regarding my career and the channel. My current job contract will likely wrap up at the end of the year, so I'm figuring out where to go next. Moreover, the friction of managing the "different Egees" has been wearing me down since I started working full-time. Because of this, I am planning for everything to coalesce into a single, unified Egee brand. I’ve also decided that I no longer want to run Egee like a business—that is a major shift that I plan to spend time pondering during my time off.
Channel Updates: The Ubuntu 26.04 Upgrade
If you've noticed the Egee channel has been a bit dry lately, it's honestly because I haven't felt the urge to make many videos. However, an opportunity recently popped up that I couldn't pass up: I made a video upgrading Ubuntu 25.10 to 26.04 on the very last day of supported updates lol. Overall, the upgrade went fine without any major issues, and so far, Ubuntu 26.04 is OK.
I've got a list of video ideas but time is a premium these days and a few other things are on the docket first. I'm hoping to have my backlog cleared out soonish though.
Game Dev: Introducing Chrysalis
I started a pleasure project last year because I wanted to learn about Crystal, a compiled language with syntax similar to Ruby, my favorite programming language. At the time, I was playing around with DragonRuby and while it's not a bad game framework by any means, I got frustrated that I needed to code my own basic primitives. It made me wonder - what is the point of using an engine if you have to turn around and code your own basic plumbing? That question ultimately spurred the development of my own personal game framework.
Right now, Chrysalis is sitting at v0.4.0. It’s ostensibly proprietary for the time being and lives on my personal GitLab, but I plan to move it over to GitHub and open source it once it reaches v1.
That's all I have right now - I must return to packing! Have a great July, and y'all will hear from me soon!
