Here’s my update video
It hasn’t even been a year since my last hiatus! But in my defense, that hiatus only lasted a few weeks. This one will likely be for a few months.
And before you ask “Wait, where’s the video?”, the joke is on you; this is the video (hint: there is no video).
Zomg why?
The official reason is: I was asked to author a programming course on Qt and C++ programming. It’s a professional gig where I’ll be doing the coding & recording, and they will be doing the editing and marketing. Needless to say this is a big deal and I want to focus all my creative “video-making” energy into it.
The unofficial reason is that I simply have too many projects going on. I can’t keep up with my list of commitments. And to be honest, YouTube is not terribly high on that list.
My Commitment To My YouTube Channel
I don’t have one. That might sound surprising but, my YouTube channel is simply a means to an end. And my fans and members of my audience who want to engage with me can find me on Twitter and on Egee.io.
Let’s be honest here, YouTube does not provide a great medium for interacting with your audience and the Creator tools are so bad, I don’t really pay much attention to the analytics or comment sections anymore. It’s just too much effort to get the basic information I need.

Besides, my YouTube channel isn’t going to die off or anything. I’ll be back uploading videos in few months.
Other Commitments?
Unless you follow my every Tweet or hang out in the Egee.io Discord, you may be unaware that I have a ton of Open Source projects that I work on. I’d love to have more projects and contribute to other projects but I just don’t have the time or bandwidth.
For example, I hacked my website together almost a year ago using EmberJS and MaterializeCSS. I knew it sucked and I intended for it to be a placeholder for a big community re-write. Well, I’ve started and stopped the re-write like three times now.
And if you pursue my GitHub, you may notice a bunch of repositories starting with “gsc-”. That’s another project I’ve been working on.
Returning To The Grind?
Making YouTube videos every week is a grind. Some people like it, some don’t. I’ve blogged about the whole weekly video thing before. For me, it leads to burn out.
My Qt gig will wrap up in April. I have no idea if it will be successful or not but I’ll give it my best. And I have no idea how I’ll be feeling once it is done. Maybe I’ll return to my Open Source projects, maybe I’ll go back to YouTube.
Either way, you can always find me on Twitter or in the Egee.io Discord server.
