Wait, Egee Blogs?

Yep, but it’s been a while. My most recent blog was over on Medium and I was somewhat active over there. A lot of what I posted there was summaries of my YouTube videos but I occasionally did tutorials and stuff too.

For a little while, I ran Jekyll but before all that, I was a WordPress blogger! I had a blog called briansprojects and I wrote about Android rooting and hacker stuff. I also dabbled with Ghost which is definitely my next choice but I’m more familiar with WordPress and it’s super easy to self-host.

What is WordPress?

WordPress is a Free & Open Source content management system written in PHP. It’s perhaps most known for being a blogging platform but it can do basically anything you’d need a website to do.

I have another website over at egee.xyz but that’s just a single Github page. It could be a WordPress site (and maybe it will be one day) but this is hosted on my own domain (egee.io) on my own server (in Linode) inside of a Docker container in a compose-like setup.

Why not Jekyll or Hugo or…

I really like gui’s and I’m not ashamed to admit it. 😤 Seriously though, I enjoy working with code but I really do not enjoy working with CSS and HTML.

I know about front-ends for popular code-first blogging engines but the whole WordPress suite is a well oiled machine and works excellently well. It has Jetpack, it can do WooCommerce, and I’ve even been using it for my client invoicing portal. It’s really neat!

What’s Next?

I haven’t been working on client development stuff much lately, so I thought I might return to blogging and delve into coding and tutorials again.

You may have heard me banter on about HobbyLinux lately. That dovetails with what I have in mind for this blog and my overall Egee network. It’s all a matter of keeping my interest and velocity up! And I think I can do it, so stay tuned!
